The use of social media has come a long way since it first made its appearance in cyber space more than eight years ago. It’s definitely gained more popularity in some countries than in others, but companies, brands, and agencies across the board are realizing that it might just have a lot more lucrative potential than initially thought.
But have we come to the same realization here in Germany? I think not. In fact, don’t most of us actually tend to shy away from personal data sharing on the internet? Which is why many individuals don’t have their own Facebook pages or Twitter accounts, especially in comparison to other countries. And although I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this attitude – in fact, it might even be wise – shouldn’t we at least be differentiating between using social media on a personal level, and using it to promote a brand?
